A Leeds charity shop has described an elderly man as a “true gent” after he handed in his wife’s wedding dress with a touching, hand-written note for the person who would purchase it.
The note read:
“I wish any lady who takes this dress to have a life with her loved one 56 years like I did. Happy years. I was a lucky man to marry a lady like mine.”
Workers at St. Gemma’s Hospice, which runs the charity bridal shop where the gentleman left the dress, were so touched by the message that they took to social media to try and track him down.
The man was duly found and the hospice reported that he was delighted with the attention the dress was getting, but more so because he knew that someone was going to get the opportunity to enjoy it as his wife did.
Although the gentleman still wanted to remain anonymous, he seemed happy at the prospect of it making some much-needed money for the charity, which he holds so dear.
Given the international media attention, the charity decided to put the wedding dress up onto eBay to maximise the amount it raises.
