The marriage of Tom Lanting and Iain Robertson in Edinburgh recently ensured a little bit of history was made, as it saw the first same-sex pagan wedding on these shores.
Scotland is currently the only part of the UK that allows pagans and other smaller religions to conduct legal weddings, though with the recent introduction of the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Scotland) Act, this extended the rights to same sex couples and allowed Tom and Iain to legally marry in a manner that fitted their own beliefs.
Both Tom and Iain are what are known as hedge witches and the ceremony conformed to the many rituals of paganism, taking place in the vaulted cellars of Marlin’s Wynd. The ceremony, which was conducted by the Presiding Officer for the Pagan Federation Scotland, Louise Park, was held in front of family and friends. The happy couple said of the day:
“As hedge witches we always wanted to have a pagan marriage ceremony in line with our beliefs and it was really important to us to be able to share this ceremony with our friends and family.”
Whatever the manner in which a couple choose to get married, its always advisable to source a professional wedding photographer from Cheshire or the surrounding area, to be able to record the day with skill and decorum.
Tom and Iain’s wedding, perhaps more than most, shows the importance couples place on having the happy day presented in a way that reflects the personality of those involved, and an experienced photographer can ensure that this is captured in the images taken on the day.
