Organising a wedding can be a huge task for the happy couple – so much so in fact that some of the more important aspects of the day may be overlooked. Although this won’t cast a shadow on the day, you may look back on it and wish you had organised things differently.
Here are some tips to make sure your day is as happy as it can be:
All about personality
Arrange a wedding that reflects the couple’s personality, rather than trying to please friends and family who often make demands on the couple without realising it. Although you don’t have to have a themed wedding, make sure that the venue, food, music and other aspects of the big day reflect your taste.
Don’t forget the ceremony
When people arrange a wedding, they very often put more effort into organising the wedding reception, rather than the ceremony. The vows, readings and music are important factors of the time when you make a commitment to each other. Decide together what music you will play and chat to the photographer about photos of the ceremony, as this will help capture the pure happiness of the couple.
Price it up
Stick to your budget, no matter what other people suggest or influence. Before you begin the planning and booking, calculate a realistic budget and try to adhere to it. Although you want a day to remember, you also don’t want to be in debt for the next few years paying for it. Set aside a realistic amount for the things that matter, like the venue, dress and photographer so that you know the basics are in place. It is possible to get good quality without having to pay a fortune.
Don’t let the weather be a dampener
When you plan the wedding, consider the weather on the day. If you are set on having an outdoor wedding ceremony and reception, have a contingency plan in case it rains on the day. Your guests will enjoy the ceremony much more if they remain dry and comfortable, perhaps in a marquee.
Go easy until the big day
Don’t drink too much at the rehearsal dinner or hold the bachelor party and hen night too close the big day. You want to wake up feeling refreshed and ready for your day, without a raging headache or queasy stomach. Drinking too much alcohol could also make your skin puffy, which may affect your appearance and how you feel.
Make sure your guests are happy
Although you should organise the wedding of your dreams, make sure that your guests will remember the occasion for all the right reasons too. If you have guests with mobility problems, provide a seating area while the photos are being taken, or provide refreshments if the weather is exceptionally hot. Your guests will probably vary in age from babies to the older generation, with varying requirements to keep them comfortable.
You have planned everything right down to the finest detail, but something may still go wrong. Rather than let it spoil your day, remember what is important on the day, keep your sense of humour intact, and smile!
